Negative punishment involves removing a desirable stimulus to decrease a specific behavior. For example, if a child misbehaves, a parent might take away their favorite toy to discourage the behavior. The goal is to reduce the occurrence of the unwanted behavior by taking away something the individual enjoys. This technique contrasts with positive punishment, where an unpleasant stimulus is added to decrease behavior.
