2024 marks the first year that the Annual Caltrain Holiday Train runs on the newly electrified mainline from San Francisco to San Jose. Leading the Holiday train was JPBX #921 "San Martin".
JPBX 921 is one of 3 MPI built F40PH-2C'S purchased by Caltrain in 1998 and some of the last F40's in service for Caltrain as electrification lead to the retirement of most of the F40PH's built by EMD leaving the MPI F40's such as 921 itself and the MP36PH-3C's on the South County Connector which runs on weekdays during rush hour. Ever since electrification began, the Holiday Train may be the closest thing to having Caltrain diesels running on the peninsula as well as what Caltrain was before electrification.
