NYSA: THE CITY OF DIONYSOS
In mythology, following the command of Zeus, Hermes entrusted the infant Dionysos to the nymphs of Mount Nysa to be raised. The people of Nysa featured scenes from the life of Dionysos, the patron god of the city, on the podium friezes of the theatre's stage building.

A MARVEL OF ROMAN ARCHITECTURE AND ENGINEERING: NYSA
Built into a valley in harmony with the topography, the ancient city of Nysa strikingly presents visitors with some of the finest examples of Roman architecture and engineering, particularly through its stadium, tunnel, and three bridges.

NYSA: THE CITY OF EDUCATION AND CULTURE
Located in the fertile basin of the Maeander (Büyük Menderes) on a major trade route, Nysa was described by Strabo—who was educated there—in his work Geographica (XIV, 649). He defined it as a "double city," mostly spread across the foothills of Mount Messogis (Aydın/Cevizli Mountain) and split in two by a gorge formed by a torrential stream.

One of Nysa's best-preserved structures, the Theatre, covers an area of approximately 73x99 meters. Thought to have been built in the Late Hellenistic Period (second half of the 1st century BC), it features a cavea (seating area) that exceeds a semicircle by 12 degrees. The stage building and the scaenae frons (the multi-story columned architectural facade) were likely built as a two-story structure between 120–140 AD, independent of the cavea. After the Hadrian-period stage building was destroyed in the earthquake of 178 AD, it was rebuilt as a three-story structure between 180–200 AD.

DİONYSOS’UN KENTİ NYSA

Mitolojide Zeus’un buyruğuyla Hermes, çocuk Dionysos’u büyütmesi için Nysa Dağının perilerine emanet etmiştir. Nysa’lılar inşa ettikleri tiyatronun sahne binasının podyum frizlerinde, Nysa tanrısı olan Dionysos’un yaşamından kesitlere yer vermiştir.

ROMA MİMARİ VE MÜHENDİSLİĞİNİN HARİKASI: NYSA

Nysa antik kenti topografyaya uyumlu bir şekilde vadiye inşa edilmiş yapıları, özellikle stadyumu, tüneli ve 3 köprüsüyle Roma mimari ve mühendisliğinin en güzel örneklerini çarpıcı bir şekilde ziyaretçilerine sunmaktadır.

EĞİTİM ve KÜLTÜR KENTİ “NYSA”

Maiandros / Büyük Menderes’in bereketli havzasında, ana ticaret yolu güzergâhında bulunan Nysa’yı, eğitimini bir dönem Nysa’da gerçekleştirmiş olan Strabon Coğrafya adlı eserinde (Geographica XIV,649) “büyük kısmıyla Mesogis Dağı’nın (Aydın/Cevizli Dağı) eteklerine yayılmış, sel akıntısıyla meydana gelmiş bir boğazla ikiye ayrılmış çifte kent” olarak tanımlamaktadır.

Nysa’nın en iyi korunmuş yapılardan biri olan Tiyatro, yaklaşık 73x99 metrelik bir alanı kaplamaktadır. Geç Helenistik Dönemde (MÖ 1. yüzyılın 2. yarısı) inşa edilmiş olduğu düşünülen ve yarım daire formunu 12 derece açan bir cavea ya (oturma alanı) sahiptir. Yapıya ait sahne binası ve scaenae frons (sahne binası önündeki çok katlı sütunlu mimari), cavea'dan bağımsız olarak MS 120–140 yılları arasında olasılıkla iki katlı olarak inşa edilmiştir. MS. 178 depremiyle yıkılan Hadrian Dönemi sahne binası, MS 180– 200 yıllarında yeniden üç katlı olarak inşa edilmiştir.
