Climbing Mount Kinabalu near Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, Five Australian families, youngest child 8 years old, aiming for the summit. Recommend training on stairs or steps . It's a manageable climb the more you train the quicker and better the recovery. Temperature and humidity at start is ok, but at the top it's quite cold - gloves, jacket and woolly hat recommended. Altitude sickness does have an effect especially after the height of 3,300m (overnight accommodation Laban Rata)
