On a weekday during February 2020, we took our camera following KiwiRail trains over the Midland Line on a cloudy, but soon clearing into a hot summers day. We follow the world-famed Tranz Alpine express train right over to Greymouth, featuring a newly rebuilt and advanced luggage van on the tail end. Afterwards we catch up with a loaded coal train heading towards Christchurch, this bulk operation being the main source of traffic over this scenic part of railway line in New Zealand. As of May 2020, following the nation-wide lockdown from Covid-19, coal traffic has resumed to full operation whereas the Tranz Alpine has been suspended until further notice, enjoy!
