Two Afghan asylum seekers have been charged after the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, sparking shock in the local community.
Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, is charged with rape, while Mohammad Kabir, also 23, faces charges of aiding and abetting rape, kidnap, and strangulation. The victim is now receiving specialist care.
Despite local concern, sources say police advised councillors not to mention the suspects’ asylum status to avoid “inflaming tensions.” Some residents accused police of a cover-up, fearing protests like those in Epping, Essex.
Warwickshire Police defended their approach, saying sensitive details are sometimes withheld to protect court proceedings.
