In honor of Brain Injury Awareness Month, NBIS wanted to highlight some of the fantastic community research happening in BC. NBIS Board Director Stephanie, sat down with Karen M. and Julia S. to discuss their thoughts on community-based research, how it impacts the organizations involved, and their own journeys towards research as women.

Karen Mason, Co-founder and Executive Director of SOAR, ‘Supporting Survivors of Abuse and Brain Injury through Research’. The only organization in the country that is exclusively focused on the intersection of brain injury and Intimate partner violence.”

Julia Schmidt is an Associate Professor at the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. She is also a Principal Investigator at Vancouver’s GF Strong Rehabilitation Research Program.
