The late, great legendary singer, Bob Shane, founder of the original Kingston Trio, singing a solo of one of The Trio’s biggest hits, “Scotch and Soda.”
Shane’s performance was live at Desert C.A.M. Studios, but as with all music video productions, was lip-synced for camera to audio playback. The black screen behind Bob will be eventually married with imagery to be inserted, along with other footage we captured of Bob, to create a posthumous music video release from this iconic artist. Shane passed away the same day that Kobe Bryant was killed, though so many music lovers didn’t know for days that Bob had died. Like the late Farrah Fawcett-Majors, who died the same day as Michael Jackson, they were both swept from the front pages and the breaking news.
Director Miller captured six music video performances in one week. Each will soon be released to pay tribute to this multiple Grammy winner, a singer Frank Sinatra called, “The Voice.” The Kingston Trio was one of the top four best-selling artists in Capitol Records history, along with The Beach Boys, Frank Sinatra, and The Beatles! Miller directed Bob Shane’s last historical professional performance, for his 2016-2019 PBS TV live concert special, "The Kingston Trio Celebration" with guest celebrity artists paying tribute and performing with The Trio’s George Grove, Bill Zorn & Rick Dougherty. Artists like Timothy B. Schmit (The Eagles); Al Jardine (The Beach Boys); Barry “Eve of Destruction” McGuire; the late Trini Lopez; The Limeliters; Henry Diltz (Modern Folk Quartet); Sana Christian; Paul Gabrielson; a special appearance by Shari Belafonte, who also photographed the event; and more. The full concert and bonus footage is still available on DVD, and now available worldwide on all major streaming platforms from MVD Distributors. To see behind the scenes footage and celebrity backstage interviews, go to Desert C.A.M. Studios YouTube Channel and select playlists for either “Live Television Concert Specials” or “Commercials, PSA’s, Promotions.”
A production from Desert C.A.M. Studios in Burbank and Palm Desert, CA.
