MIDI Guitar 2.2.1 and Fretboard Zones - The Ranger script

Fretboard zones, or splits, are something we don't necessarily associate with the MIDI Guitar 2 software. The question does come up now and again, so here are two ways to go about it, working in a DAW setup. I am using Abelton here, but I am sure this solution can also be applied to other DAWs too.
As I am using the RANGER script here, I am also describing how to add and modify Lua scripts to MIDI Guitar in general.
The second approach to this is dependent on a hexaphonic pickup being involved in the setup, to be able to use and split zones on a per-string-basis.
