James Morone is the John Hazen White Professor of Political Science, Public Policy and Urban Studies at Brown University. Professor Morone has published eleven books and over 150 articles, reviews, and essays on American political history, social policy, and health care politics. Morone was elected to the National Academy of Science and Medicine in 2015; he has served on the editorial board of eight scholarly journals (chairing two of them), was distinguished Fulbright lecturer to Japan and has testified before the US Congress numerous times. He has won the Hazeltine Citation for teaching five times (the citation is awarded each year by the senior class).

Jim’s first book, The Democratic Wish,was named a “notable book of 1991” by the New York Times and won the Political Science Association’s Kammerer Award for the best book on the United States. His Hellfire Nation: the Politics of Sin in American Historywas nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and named a top book of 2003 by numerous newspapers and magazines (including both Christianity Todayand PlayboyMagazine). Morone’s By The People: Debating American Politics (written with Rogan Kersh) has become one of the most widely used American Government Textbooks. His The Heart of Power: Health and Politics in the Oval Office(written with David Blumenthal, MD) was featured on the front page of the New York Times Book Review.According to unreliable sources, President Obama was seen reading the book at Camp David.
