Duramax Can't SHIFT? TCM Left the CHAT?? ('13 Sierra 2500HD)

Owner of this 2013 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax says he was driving along one day, then BOOM the transmission stopped shifting right and went into a "Fail Safe" mode.
Next day the truck drove fine for 20 minutes and then BOOM, same thing!
All the modules are saying "Lost Communication with TCM"...
What is going on with this Transmission Control Module?
Will any EXPENSIVE parts be required?
