Taken from the Introduction of Moosa Richardson's study guide (the workbook we will be using throughout the class), "Al-Imam al-Muzani was regarded by a great number of Shaafi'ee scholars, as well as scholars from other schools of jurisprudence, as the greatest and most knowledgeable students of al-Imam ash-Shaafi'ee and the best representative of the teaching of that great imam. It is therefore befitting that all those who take honor in following the teachings of Imam ash-Shaafi'ee attach themselves to this important text in creed, study it, and adopt it, even if that means opposing the later scholars whose creed became influenced by philosophy and rhetoric."
