1. Designing the T-shirt
Concept and Artwork: It starts with coming up with a design. This could involve graphics, logos, text, or patterns. Some designs are simple, while others might involve detailed artwork.
Digital Mockup: Graphic designers use software (like Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop) to create a digital version of the design, ensuring that it fits the dimensions and shape of the T-shirt.
2. Printing/Decoration
This is where the design comes to life:
Screen Printing: A popular method for large runs. A stencil (or screen) is used to apply layers of ink onto the fabric. Great for bold, flat colors and designs.
Direct-to-Garment (DTG): For more intricate designs and smaller runs. A printer applies the ink directly onto the fabric, much like a regular inkjet printer.
Heat Transfer: Design is printed onto a special paper, then transferred to the fabric using heat. Common for smaller batches or one-off custom T-shirts.
Embroidery: For a more premium look, logos and text can be embroidered onto the fabric using stitching.
3. Finishing Touches
Tagging: A label (brand tag, size tag, etc.) is sewn or printed onto the T-shirt.
Washing/Finishing: Some shirts undergo washing to soften the fabric and set the print. This also ensures that the T-shirt doesn’t shrink or fade after the first wash.
Quality Control: Every T-shirt is inspected for defects in stitching, print alignment, or fabric defects.
4. Packaging and Shipping
The finished T-shirts are folded, packed, and labeled for shipment.
For retail, they may be packaged in bulk or individually, depending on the customer or retailer’s preference.
