What Does God Look Like As Per Hinduism

The Bhagavad Gita, often referred to as the Gita, is one of the most revered texts in Hindu philosophy. Set within the epic narrative of the Mahabharata, the Gita is a conversation between Prince Arjuna and Lord Krishna, who serves as his charioteer. This dialogue occurs on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, just before the great war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas is about to begin. Arjuna, confused and morally troubled about fighting in the war, seeks guidance from Krishna. It is during this conversation that Krishna reveals profound truths about life, duty, and, most importantly, the nature of God and His appearance. The Bhagavad Gita provides a rich and complex description of the appearance of God, particularly through the persona of Krishna, who is an incarnation of Vishnu, one of the primary deities in Hinduism. The Gita goes beyond the literal appearance of God in a human or divine form and delves into metaphysical concepts such as the nature of the divine, God’s omnipresence, omnipotence, and transcendence, as well as His immanence within the universe. The most direct example of the appearance of God in the Bhagavad Gita is Krishna himself, who is both Arjuna's friend and charioteer but also a divine incarnation of Vishnu, the preserver of the universe.
