3. SOUNDBITE: (English) Craig Bigley, Ken Bigley's son:
"This is a statement on behalf of Stan Bigley, Ken's eldest brother, Phil Bigley, Ken's youngest brother and myself, Craig Bigley, Ken's only remaining son. We are making an appeal on behalf of Ken's 86 year old mother and the rest of our family members. We have seen and heard Ken's pleas. Thank you for letting Ken make his appeal. all of the family are very grateful to you for his message. They wish you to say to Ken that they love him dearly and are waiting for him to come home soon. We have heard what you say and want to continue to listen to you. You have proved to the world that you are committed and determined. Be merciful as we know you can be. Release Ken back to his wife and family. We ask you, as a family, to be all merciful."

STORYLINE:

Craig Bigley, the son of Iraqi hostage Kenneth Bigley, pleaded with his father's captors for mercy on Wednesday.

Speaking after their father made a desperate appeal to Tony Blair, Craig Bigley, 33, said in a statement on behalf of his family: "Be merciful, as we know you can be."

Craig, flanked by his uncles Stan and Phil, made the brief statement hours after the video of his father was released by the hostages' captors.

The family made the brief statement at a conference centre in Liverpool City Centre.

Only Craig spoke during the short press conference.

Craig, along with Stan, 65, and Phil, 49, then left without taking questions from the press.
