*PLEASE NOTE* Make sure to remove the large flat washer that goes between the driveline and the center support bearing BEFORE installing the new flat washer and bearing. In this video I did not remove the old washer, and now the new one is just spinning on the driveshaft and making awful noises. I will be redoing it.
The center support bearing often called the carrier bearing is responsible for supporting the driveshaft. When this part fails it causes rattles, pops, clunks and other alarming sounds.
This video is a step to step guide on how to replace the center support bearing on a Ford F-350. The process will be the same on a F-250, and probably the same or very similar on an F-450 and F-550.
To get the bearing off the shaft, we used custom length puller arms. If you want custom puller arms for your puller, we can make them.
Torque specs:
Drive shaft to transfer case flange: 76ft/lbs
Center support bearing hold down bolts: 47ft/lbs
Part numbers:
Center Shaft Support Bearing/Carrier Bearing
This Ford 7.3 F350 has the large diameter drive shaft and requires the large center support bearing. The Spicer part number is: 211359X. I used an aftermarket FKG brand, P/N: HB88508A
PTFE Lubricant
Motorcraft XG-8 PTFE lubricant. This is specifically recommended for the slip yoke on the drive shaft.
Shimming the center support bearing
Rule of thumb: Shim bearing 1/4inch for every inch of lift.
I made a 1inch spacer and needed two 7/16”-14 x 2” bolts with washers
