Vendor Tries to Ban Filming at Public Art Festival — I Didn’t Let It Slide

This week, I walked into something unexpected.
I headed to Delray Beach planning to film a First Amendment audit down Atlantic Avenue — but found myself in the middle of a city-sanctioned art festival. The street was closed off, artists had their tents up, and the entire downtown was transformed into a public gallery.
Most people were chill — but one vendor wasn’t happy about the camera. She pointed out a sign that said “No Photos / No Videos,” called me a clown, and told me “stupid can’t be fixed.” I reminded her that if you display your art in public, you don’t get to control who sees it — or who films it.
There were no cops, no arrests — just a quiet but important reminder that the First Amendment doesn’t take a day off.
