This is not an old distillery if you have studied the Scottish distillery history. The GlenAllachie Distillery was designed by William-Delme Evans and built by Mackinlay McPherson in 1967 to be almost entirely gravity fed to run on reduced energy. In 1985, Mackinlay McPherson became part of Invergordon and then the distillery was shut down that same year. Campbell Distillers (Pernod Ricard) purhased the distillery in 1989. They ran it until 2017 when Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson purchased it and formed the GlenAllachie Distillers Company Limited. That included MacNair’s and White Heather brands as well. Legend and 'Hall of Famer', Billy Walker, shouldn't have to be introduced to most of you but I will. He was actually a chemist and has 50 years in the Whisky business. In the early days he was involved with Hiram Walker & Ballantine’s which is part of Pernod Ricard. His name relates to quality and improving the stature of brands such as Deanston, Tobermory, and more recently, BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh. He's on a new journey now with GlenAllachie along with his personal assistant for many years, Trisha Savage as well as an old work associate, former Inver House MD, Graham Stevenson. Trisha recently retired and Graham Stevenson has moved on as a director of Lighthouse spirits Company. Today GlenAllachie has already expanded it's core range to an 8 Year Old, 10 Year Old Cask Strength, 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old, 18 Year Old, 21 Year Old Cask Strength, 25 Year Old and 30 Year Old Cask Strength. To commemorate Billy Walker’s 50 years in the whisky industry, they launched the first of a trilogy, the Past, Present and Future Series at 16 years of age. This has happened since 1917 but he hasn't stopped there. There is the blended MacNair’s Lum Reek and the White Heather 21-year-old. His 10 year old Cask Strength won the World’s Best Single Malt at the 2021 World Whiskies Awards, which I will review later. But the whisky in the beginning that got the reviewers heads turning and also got me introduced to GlenAllachie is this one that I am reviewing.
