Former NS and SP power on the Rapid City Pierre & Eastern Railroad -SP SD45T-2, SD40-2s, RCPE-

Last year the Rapid City, Pierre, and Eastern Railroad acquired a handful of former NS SD40-2s, and leased three former Southern Pacific SD45T-2 tunnel motors. This short lived era made for some colorful sets of power, and was the ONLY time I shot one of the former NS SD40s leading. The former Conrail unit had a really neat sounding horn as well.
Starting off near Judson, the MMNAU pulls into the siding for a planned meet with a Canadian Pacific manifest. While it was waiting there, I put up the drone, and got some unique views as the quartet of EMDs waited. Surprisingly, the train started to pull again; the plans with the dispatcher had changed. They would meet at Cobden, and pick up two additional SD45T-2s. After shooting the RCPE 3445 in New Ulm, and hearing its horn a few times in other places, the train and meet finally happened at Cobden. Once the CP train cleared, the RCP&E pulled ahead, performed some switch moves, and was off into the setting winter sun! Just a few months later, the SD45T-2s were returned to LTEX, and the 3445 now wears G&W colors. This short lived era was neat to say the least!
