Marriage and ancient Rome was much different from how we view it today. While we usually associate marriage with love, in ancient Rome it was closer to a business transaction, and women were closer to slaves than they were people under the law. In this video we will explore the different types of marriage recognized during the Roman Republic and what the typical marriage was like, as well as some surprisingly modern customs at the Romans engaged in.
