You are looking at one of the most unique and picturesque landscapes of Spain. Due to its aridity, known locally as "Los Barrancos", or "badlands"
Ravine is the most important water erosion process in depressions and sedimentary basins, filled with soft materials and little resistant such as loam, if we add to this, a
land almost devoid of vegetation, we find very high rates of erosion.Furrows, gullies and revines drain into this place in two of the most important tributaries of the
Chicamo river, such as the ravines of La Para and Font.
Among the main causes of its formation can be mentioned: the erosiveness of the rains, the slopes of the land, the fragility of te soil, (loams and clay silt sediments), the aridity of
the climate, condition their scarce volution, and they tend to be very poor in organic matter. Lastly, there is little or no vegetation cover.
As for the fauna in the "Huerta", it will be possible to distinguish the sparrows, merlas, thrushes, gagarrons, greenfinches, the colorful perputa or hoopoe rabbits, the
increasingly scarce hedgehog, snakes and frogs. While in the "desert" area of Los Barrancos, is possible to find adapted plants such as the Anabasis articulata, whose
reddish wings of its fruits "adorn" in autumn these white lands. It is worth noting the presence of the Los Garres Collejón ( Moricandia moricandioides subsp. pseudo-
foetida), an endemic plant of the Region of Murcia and that exists in this place one of its best populations; as well as the trumpeter bullfinch (Bucanetes githagineus), a
bird native to the deserts of Africa and that has been colonizing the European continent for decades, as a result of desertification, which is advancing year after year.
