This is a short version of my contribution to a lecture series that Sabine Doff and Tim Giesler organized in Bremen in the winter semester 2021-2022. As announcerd in the title 'Facing the future - consulting the past', they were interested in the scholars' own experiences and perspectives on three decades of Teaching English as a Foreign Language between 1968 and 2001. In my more personal, but also conceptual lecture, I am recalling a teaching unit of mine from 1999 in which the students studied their own present and tried to make predictions for their own futures after 2000. Therefore, the title of the booklet that they created and that I am introducing in the lecture was y2K+. Using this teaching unit as an example, I am trying to identify developments and innovations in TEFL between 2000 and the present.
