This advanced reading lesson is on the poem 《一棵开花的树》 by 席慕容 (Xi Murong).
Born in Chongqing in 1943, Xi Murong moved to Taiwan when she was a girl. She is a painter of some repute, but is best known for her poems which have been recognised throughout the Chinese diaspora since the 1980s. She mostly writes about the natural world and how it bears on human affairs.
Like many of her other poems, this one draws a parallel between the natural world and human emotions.
