This one's a little bit different insofar as we're looking at a Philips VR6462 from 1985. Really an advanced and well thought out design with simplicity mixed with innovation. I was never that impressed with the video quality with these and I did sell a lot of these machines as reconditioned units back in the day and they were considerably cheaper than the JVC and Panasonic recorders from the wholesalers and people did seem to really like them too. Working on this one though and seeing the playback, I'm actually quite impressed and it's better than I remember.
I did like the 'working nice' sticker on the top; at some point I'm sure it did but those days were well behind it when it arrived with me but it is now working really well and I've watched a few tapes on it with no issues at all with the idler now working perfectly too.
I do wonder if the smoking from the old tyre which I just couldn't seem to completely clear was causing the issues with the idler.
