TAIWAN SURF TRIP: WE SCORED AN EMPTY LINE UP!

Come back to Taiwan with us! Always one of our favorite trips for the fun waves and mind blowing food. This year we're joined by Teddy Billie for his first Taiwanese experience. Along with Bronson Medyi and Varun Tandjung, in town for the WSL QS event but enjoying plenty of free surfing in the meantime. On any surf trip, the first thing we all do, is check on our precious surfboards after being at the mercy of the airlines. A little melted wax is all we got this time thankfully, all the blades made it through safe and undamaged. The next morning it's time to get boardshorts and go surf, but Bronson has a surprise stink bomb no one was ready for, the stinky tofu boardshort. Getting to the beach quickly, Teddy shares his excitement to experience the surf in Taiwan for the first time, and Varun brings a few different boards to test, while Bronson brings just his old faithful JS Carbo Tune to ride. Starting the trip with some clean conditions, the boys get out there for a free surf and throw down some sick ones despite the crowd and softer waves. The boys having been many times we less satisfied than Teddy, who was frothing on the session with positive vibes. Off to lunch and the boys are right back for a lunch hour surf. The conditions flipped completely, and the wind was howling onshore, nearly blowing Teddy away with his board. Common in this part of Taiwan and good practice for the competition, the high winds only gave the boys more energy as it presents better opportunities for aerial surfing, Bronson's specialty, who pulled a backflip in the difficult surf but was unsatisfied and wanting to do a better one (the recipe for success). Later at the local spot for dinner, the boys talk about the windy session from earlier and Teddy says it was the windiest he's ever surfed in. The next day, the contest is holding the trials so surfing Jinzun is not an option, so the boys scout out a secret spot and unlock a new wave to hit later. Later after the trials, Jinzun is open for freesurfing and the boys are out there, surfing until dark with the likes of Dane Henry, Jay Occ and more. Right after everyone heads to the local Shabu Shabu spot and picks out their favorites, feasting on some amazing, fresh food. The next day, it's time to hit up that secret spot we discovered. We scored an empty lineup and got lots of fun waves there.
