Gosh, how long has it been? FINALLY, something to show you. And about Jane Austen, no less! Her books and films have been a huge part of my life since I saw Pride and Prejudice (1995) about 4 years ago. My mum bought the DVD out of curiosity, when she saw Colin Firth on the cover. And I fell in love with it. Love at first sight. Everything was so brilliant. I had to learn more about the book and its author. Her sense of humour, her fine depiction of her own society, her delightful irony... I'm bad with words. I love her, period.
And I needed to do something about it, hence this video. I wanted to post it for the Jane Austen appreciation weekend on Tumblr but finished one day too late! This is what happens when you work on something on your free time.
Although Pride and Prejudice is my favorite story, I think her other works deserve as much recognition. The many adaptations all have their own qualities and I couldn't be elitist about it. Except the 40's version of P&P with Laurence Olivier. Sorry bro. But I can't. Everything, in this one, is wrong.
So, what did I do? Well, I used Becoming Jane with Anne Hathaway playing Austen, as a guiding thread to explain what her books were about. I used the film adaptations as illustration of the recurring themes of her novels. Love, morality, propriety, marriage and dancing. A lot of dancing!
Tell me what you think, guys. I value your opinion so much, more than you will ever know.
The music is from August Rush' soundtrack. If you haven't seen this movie, give it a shot. It's so magical and cheesy and romantic. And the music is absolutely wonderful. I tear up at the ending EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. And Robin Williams is in it. Oh, Robin :'(
I'd like to thank my dear friend Elias, whose input is invaluable to me. He supports and helps me without reserve throughout all of my projects and this one is no exception. So, thank you Elias. I can't say it enough. And the stairs and the claps are amazing ;)
Music : 'August's Rhapsody in C Major' (August Rush' Soundtrack)
Disclaimers: I don't own the songs or the clips used in this video. This is purely a work of fiction, no profit gained.
