This raw footage is from sessions for the filming of Risk It (Santa Cruz Speed Wheels) 1990, and features Markus Wyndham, Ocean Howell, Colby Carter and Eric "Tuma" Britton, shot in San Diego, California.
I was able to arrange some unique combinations of skaters for video sessions and this was no exception, with San Diego's Wyndham and Powell, Dogtown's Britton and Arizona's Colby Carter clearly inspiring and feeding off each other and attacking a variety of gaps, ledges, curbs and flatground. The footage ended up in their parts for Risk It video, which was heavily praised in Thrasher Magazine and TransWorld and was perhaps the highest selling VHS in a big year for video releases alongside H-Street Hockus Pockus, Powell Peralta Propoganda, and before 411 or Blind Video Days.
This raw footy and the skaters were well before their time and were quietly innovating and inventing a variety of tricks as well as contributing to the technical revolution that would take over skateboarding in the next few years, creating an entirely new generation of skaters raised on kickflips. It's all part of the grand history of skateboarding which we break down here on Real Skate Stories. Thanks for clicking subscribe and Notifications!
