With the help of my film, you can take a virtual walk through the castle museum. Of course, this does not replace visiting the castle in person and admiring the many interesting things up close. This film was made with the aim of being a teaser, to encourage the viewer to add this cool historical site to their bucket list and enrich themselves with their own experiences here on site.

Siklós Castle's history dates back to the 13th century, first mentioned in 1294, serving as a fortress for noble families like the Garai and Perényi, notably holding King Sigismund captive in 1401. Captured by the Ottomans in 1543, it remained under their rule for 143 years before liberation in 1686, later becoming a Baroque residence for the Batthyány family. Heavily damaged in WWII and used as a POW camp, it was restored in the 1950s and now functions as a museum, hotel, and event venue.
Key Historical Periods
• Early Mentions (13th-14th Century): First documented in 1294, with fortifications built around 1251; initially owned by the Soklyosi family.
• Royal Property & Conflict (Late 14th-15th Century): King Sigismund seized it from the Soklyosi family, then granted it to the Garai family; later, nobles temporarily imprisoned Sigismund within its walls.
• Ottoman Occupation (16th-17th Century): Conquered by the Turks after a three-day battle in 1543 and held for over a century.
• Habsburg Era & Baroque Transformation (Late 17th-19th Century): Liberated in 1686; its military role declined, and the interior was remodeled in the Baroque style, becoming a Batthyány residence.
• 20th Century & Restoration: Used as a POW camp during WWII (holding British, American, and Polish prisoners). Following abandonment, archaeological work and restoration began in 1955, transforming it into its current function as a museum, hotel, and tourist site.

Siklós Castle is a significant historical landmark, featuring permanent exhibitions, summer concerts, festivals, and offering panoramic views from its ramparts.
