Many times, they are experiencing pityrosporum folliculitis, yeast-based acne that must be treated differently than regular acne. In this video, Joel Schlessinger MD describes this condition and how it can be treated.

This form of acne often appears as tiny bumps that begin to form on the forehead and continue to spread to the face, neck, chest and back. These bumps are caused by yeast infections and can be treated with both topical and oral medications.

Yeast-based acne cannot be treated using typical acne treatment products such as those containing benzoyl peroxide. Nizoral, a cleanser, can be used to wash the face and body to eliminate yeast on the skin. Patients can also take an oral medication called Ketoconazole to help relieve this condition.
