This arrangement by Maurice Duruflé, of the chorale Jesus Joy of Man's Desiring is excellent because Bach perfectly combines an appealing theme with the chorale.
Why is this work by Johann Sebastian Bach, Wohl mir, daß ich Jesum habe (Choral) / Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben 6th movement / Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring / Jesus bleibet meine Freude / Jesus alegria dos homens / "Réjouis-toi mon âme" (werde munter, mein Gemüthe) [BWV 147], so immensely popular?
And in the middle, there is a part in minor, after which a radiant major part is a continuation. Because of the minor part, this bar is in my opinion the pinnacle of the composition.

The English pianist Myra Hess (1890–1965) published a transcription for piano solo in 1926 and for piano duet in 1934.
Her adaptation became popular, which is why this work has become so well known under the English title.

De bewerking van Maurice Duruflé van het koraal 'Jesus Joy of Man's Desiring' is uitmuntend.
Bach combineert een aansprekend thema prachtig met het koraal.
En in het midden komt een gedeelte voor in mineur waarna Bach een stralend C-akkoord laat volgen.
Vanwege het mineurgedeelte vormt dit naar mijn mening, het hoogtepunt van de compositie. 2:14
