Panchavadyam, meaning 'five instruments', is a classical temple art form from Kerala. It is an ensemble of four percussion instruments (timila, maddalam, ilathalam, idakka) and one wind instrument (kombu). Characterized by a mesmerizing, pyramid-like rhythmic structure that constantly increases in tempo, it is a key feature of temple festivals and processions, offering a powerful, spiritual, and cohesive musical experience.
