For this project, we were tasked to create a 1-2-minute video about sustainability that focuses on one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The one I decided to go for was immigration, as that is something that the whole world is tackling right now. For this project, I took on the phrase "less is more." I had two actors, one location, and one camera, and the shots were effortless. I knew the way to get this message across was to make sure that the immigrant had more attention than the deportee. I chose French, as when I was coming up with the idea, there were people fleeing to France, and it is becoming a significant problem because they are not allowing them in. Why I chose to deactivate only speak French was because that is what can happen when there is a language barrier, which some people do not know about.
The poem Boots has been around for many years. It is a physcoligal attack that is still used today in the navy, if they were ever captured and start being torched they were told to repeat the poem over and over again which then send the enemies insane to point they would be released, you can see the deactivate is cocky at first and then down on his knees begging to tell him what he wants to know. I got the idea from the 28 Years Later trailer and the film, which uses this to really build tension, and I wanted to make my own version of it, but it also shows how a group of people can come together and stay strong.
I really enjoyed making this. Thank you to the actors Callum Moss and Dario Curic, who did a fantastic job portraying the actors. Thank you to Tom for helping with sound recording for this project.
