It all started back in 2012, when a dear friend of mine, Ali Murtaza from Sahiwal, recommended a book that changed the way I looked at travel: *Yak Saraye*, by Sir Mustansar Hussain Tarar. Ever since then, I’ve dreamed of tracing Tarar Sahib’s footsteps, especially his journey to Karomber Lake through the wild Chuinj Valley and over the mighty Darkot Pass.
For years, I waited for a companion to join me on this journey but that moment never came. So in 2024, I finally decided to begin the first leg solo: on a motorbike, from Booni to Broghil Valley, and then on foot to Karomber Lake.
---
🎬 In this first video of the series, I share my ride from *Booni to Unauch*, after being delayed in Booni for three days waiting for my **NOC**. I spent the night in *Power Village*, and reached Unauch by midday of the second riding day.
You’ll experience:
🏍️ Remote mountain riding in northern Chitral
🕒 The wait and challenges of securing a NOC
🏞️ Starkly beautiful valleys, rivers, and raw terrain
🪪 What travelers need to know about permits and ID checks
🧭 Why solo travel in these areas is rewarding—but not without risks
---
This is just the beginning.
🧭 In *Part 2*, the scenery becomes unreal, the giant Wadeenkot glaciers, lush meadows, and views of *6,500m+ Hindu Raj peaks*.
🥾 Part 3 will cover my solo **trek to Karomber Lake**, wild camping, and the night I got lost on my way back.
I hope this inspires others to chase their own version of Tarar’s path—and one day, I’ll return to finish the journey through **Ishkomen - Karomber Valley and Darkot Pass**, just like I dreamed.
