On this week's episode of Dynamic Discussions, Greg and David introduce us to a handy piece of lifesaving equipment: the vertical lifeline assembly. So, what is a Vertical Lifeline Assembly (VLA) and when is it used? A vertical lifeline assembly is something you would commonly find in your bucket kit. It consists of a high-strength poly-rope with rope grab tool attached for you to use as your connecting device. You will typically use these assemblies on a construction site or on a roof in a fall restraint scenario. To use it properly, you will connect the VLA to an anchor with a snap hook then, using the positioning device (rope grab), the worker will lock in the appropriate length to keep themselves from reaching the edge or fall hazard. The positioning device will also have a shock pack or deceleration device attached to it. These vertical lifeline assemblies are extremely versatile and very popular, so make sure to read the manual carefully to make sure you use them properly.
