Exploring nature and history by the Suwannee River at Andrews Wildlife Management Area. Surrounded by scenic this Florida wilderness and enjoying seeing the wildlife along the way. I often explore here and is a nice place to enjoy the woods and some history as well. There is a boardwalk trail as well that leads you above floodplain swamps to a scenic view of the Suwannee River.
Recreational Opportunities - Enjoy hunting, fishing, paddling and miles of trails along the Suwannee River for hiking and biking.
The cabins were built during the 1940’s by the Andrews family who was once owned this land. They used the area for recreation and hunting. During the 1800’s the area was used for farming and the nearby Suwannee River was a vital source for transportation and logging. One of the interesting historical sites here is the lone grave site. It’s the only recorded grave in the area but it makes me wonder if it was part of a family cemetery or homestead at one time? How is it that just one gravesite of an infant is buried here? These are some of the curiosities you get from exploring places like this and when you come across the history. The gravesite is that of Walter Owens 1889. It’s recorded on the Florida cemetery database with Florida Public Archaeology
