Zhao Jia Zhen (guqin)
Zhao Jia Zhen is a professor at the Guqin Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of China. In 1980 she enrolled at the Guqin Folk Music Department of the Central Conservatory of China as a student, graduating in 1984.Then she became a teacher at the School. She is a member of the Musicians Association of China, Director of the Beijing Guqin Research Association, a member of the Chinese Folk and String Music Society, Director of the Chinese Qin Committee of the Folk and String Music Society and a member of the Guqin Experts Committee of the Folk and String Music Society. She also served as adjudicator of the National Youth Folk Music Instruments Competition in 2002.
Zhao has performed with the Chinese Symphony Orchestra, Movie Orchestra of China, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Brussels Symphony Orchestra of Belgium, and the National Orchestra of Taipei City and engaged in the production of CDs. In 2001 and 2002 she played in the World Renowned Musicians and Instruments Concert in the Zhong Shan Hall at the Forbidden City in Beijing. In the concert there were three priceless guqins from the Tang Dynasty and five Guarneri and Antonio Stradivari violins worth more than $2 billion being played. It has become the event of the year in the music world.
During the many years of Zhaos teaching career she has trained many students who have won prizes in various competitions. In the National Youth Folk Music Instruments Competition, seven of her students won medals: one Gold, three Silver and three Bronzes.
Zhao has performed the music in movies such as The History of the Three Kingdoms, Dream of the Red Chamber, Swordsman, Fire on Yuanming Yuan and Wu Ze Tian. She has also made CDs: Colorful Rhythm, Renowned Musicians and songs, The Elegance of poetry and Glimpses of the Silk Road.
She has toured the United States, Germany, Italy, Holland, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The New York Times has been quoted as commenting, Zhao is a word class performer!.
