This clip gives some tips on filling the base of a portable basketball hoop with 350 lbs. of sand. (Best to speed up the video a little to get through it. At 1.5x I think I sound a little like Steve Buscemi...you be the judge.)
Materials needed:
1. DRY play sand (Seven 50 pound bags, usually found near the concrete in your hardware store)
2. Five-gallon bucket (I said 3 gallon in the video)
3. PVC Male Terminal adapter (E943D)
4. PVC Female Terminal adapter (R5140043)
5. Drill and drill-bit
Notes: The hole you drill in the bottom of the bucket does not need to be perfect. I had a large drill-bit but it would have made too big a hole. I used a smaller drill-bit and I worked it in and out of the hole to enlarge it. Make sure the "terminal adapter" is the appropriate size for whatever size hole your base has. Dry sand is the key. It started snowing after I ended the video. The sand got a little wet and it definitely took a lot more effort to push the sand through the hole.
Busts on me: I snorf a few times in the video...apologies...the temperature was dropping and my nose was running. I make a statement that "they do not make large funnels". I'm sure that is not true. I just could not find one in the hardware store. Technically the terminal adapters are made of PVC (I stated plastic, but it is essentially the same thing for the nit-pickers out there). Yes, the video is portrait instead of landscape. I will give myself a thumbs down for that so you don't have to.
