Ford Dual Tanks not Working? Watch This: E350 Tank Selector Switch - Real Time Fix & Mechanic Humor

Only able to draw Fuel from One or None of your Fuel Tanks in your Dual Tank Ford? Watch this simple repair job in real-time that we did to remedy ours. It took us less that 43 minutes to get the job done, we were not even rushing, and we had never done this before. Just having fun and making light of the situation.

Our 1991 Ford Econoline E350 was only pumping fuel from the rear tank, and would not pump from the front gas tank. After much research we determined that the Fuel Tank Selector Valve was not switching between the tanks and was stuck on the Rear position.

Instead of removing the Switch Valve from the Van, we performed the job on the vehicle, saving time by not having to unplug the fuel lines, collecting the gas that would drain out, and having to unscrew the unit from the frame.

We cleaned the cap area thoroughly of all road debris before opening up the valve.

This part is also known as the Mechanical Selector Valve or Reservoir. (MSV)

The Flow of the Fuel travels as follows:
-It begins either in the Front (Auxiliary) or Rear (Main) Fuel Tank
-The Boost Pump in the chosen fuel tank draws in the fuel through the Inlet Filter and pushes it towards the Mechanical Selector Valve
The MSV is controlled by the Low Pressure Fuel Pumps. Only one set of Pressure and Return Lines are active at a time
-The fuel passes through the mechanical selector valve into the Pressure Line
-Then the fuel is sent through the High Pressure Fuel Pump
-The fuel goes through another in-line Filter before passing through a Pressure Test Point, and into the Fuel Rail, and finally the Injectors
-Any excess fuel goes through the Regulator and through the Return line, back through the MSV, and back to the selected Fuel Tank
-This is the flow of Fuel in the Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system on 1988 and later E Series vehicles and 1986 and later F Series vehicles.
