VP Sara Duterte Condemns ICC Warrant, Calls Arrest ‘Warrantless’

Vice President Sara Duterte delivers her statement during the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations hearing led by Senator Imee Marcos on the roles of the ICC, Interpol, and government agencies in the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Attending virtually, she condemns what she calls a “warrantless arrest” and argues that the ICC’s warrant has no legal basis unless reviewed and validated by a Philippine court.

“Alam naman natin lahat at alam nila na mali ang ginawa nila. Ginawa nila ’yon just to demolish political opponents,” Duterte says.

She cites Section 2, Article 3 of the Constitution, stating that arrests must be issued by a Philippine judge:

"Asan yung warrant of arrest na inissue ng Pilipinas? Wala."
