This week on The Horti-Culturalists, spring has sprung! We'll take a look at nine brilliant shrubs that provide fabulous early colour and interest at that tricky moment of late winter, early spring when it's mostly bulbs doing the heavy lifting colour wise in the garden. All these shrubs are in Stephen's garden which very roughly equates to a USDA zone 9 - though in Australia we don't have a zone system - his garden can get mild winter frost and summer maxima in the high 30's oC or 90's oF.
The plants we look at in this video are:
Chaenomeles speciosa 'Nivalis' or flowering quince or japonica
Chaenomeles no ID 'red'
Chaenomeles speciosa 'Peach Melba' - Stephen's own name!
Kerria japonica 'Pleniflora' (double flower)
Kerria japonica (single flower)
Forsythia suspensa or the weeping forsythia
Stachyurus praecox
Stachyurus himalaicus
Edgeworthia chrysantha or paperbush or Japanese paper daphne
And we mention our video about propagating from cuttings from cuttings which you can find here: • How to take & propagate cuttings: a Stephe...
