In this Zassenhaus Bread Slicer Review, we unbox this bread slicer and test it out on our fresh sourdough bread. We also test the suction cups on the bottom of the slicer to see how well they keep it from sliding on the countertop.

We received this Zassenhaus bread slicer as a gift from one of our friends who owns one and really likes it. My wife was talking to him about how she makes sourdough, and when he found out we didn't have a good bread slicer, he insisted that we get a Zassenhaus.

If you've ever cut sourdough bread using a serrated knife, you know it’s doable, but it can be a hassle. It's also not easy to cut uniform slices with a knife.

The Zassenhaus bread slicer makes slicing bread easier, but it's not perfect. One thing we noticed while cutting fresh sourdough bread is that larger slices can end up falling toward the crank when you're cutting, and you may have to hold the bread to keep it away from the crank. That being said, if the bread has had time to cool down, it doesn’t seem to fall toward the handle as much.

It’s also worth noting that the suction cups on the bottom of the slicer work better on some surfaces than others. The suction holds better if you moisten the cups before attaching the slicer to your surface. Our friend has a marble countertop, and he says his doesn’t budge when it’s suctioned to the marble. Our counter, on the other hand, is linoleum, and the suction cups don’t stick as well. They hold pretty well, but you can get the slicer to move if you try.

All things considered, the Zassenhaus bread slicer makes cutting sourdough bread a lot easier and faster. I like it, and my wife loves it.
