We’re Nina and Ricky, and we’re road-tripping our way across the world 🌍
In this episode, we drive across Iran, travelling from the frozen north along the Caspian Sea, through ancient cities and breathtaking architecture, all the way toward the Persian Gulf.
Over the course of two and a half weeks on the road, we search for the elusive Caspian seal, try to buy the cheapest diesel in the world, get detoured by police, and discover some of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen. From the stunning landscapes of northern Iran to the bustling streets of Tehran, the historic bazaars of Kashan, and the unforgettable grandeur of Isfahan, this journey completely exceeded our expectations.
We explore iconic landmarks like Golestan Palace, wander through Silk Road caravanserais hidden inside ancient bazaars, visit traditional bathhouses, and stand in awe of architecture so grand it feels like there should be a massive crowd—yet somehow, there isn’t.
But not everything goes to plan. Over 1,000 km into our journey, we face repeated fuel denials… and then the biggest mechanical failure of our entire round-the-world trip. With our Pajero Beatrix losing all power just days from reaching the Persian Gulf, we’re forced to make a tough decision that brings our Iranian adventure to an unexpected end.
This isn’t how we imagined leaving Iran—but the warmth, generosity, and hospitality of the people we met along the way made this one of the most unforgettable chapters of our journey.
