In this video I demonstrate how a Cured In Place Pipe patch can permanently repair serious defects in a pipe.
No need for days of digging, dust, noise and disaster. One day of work and the pipe is permanently repaired.
A tightly, cross woven fiberglass material, embedded with a silicate resin, is typically used for straight repairs. For elbow repairs a more flexible fiberglass is used. These are hard to come by in the local market so many installers incorrectly use a felt liner embedded with silicate resin. All the manufacturers agree that this will not be a structural and long-lasting repair.
Fiberglass, which has structural value, can be impregnate and hardened with a silicate resin. The resin gives it the form while the fiberglass gives the repair the structure. Felt liner, on the other hand, is a very soft material. Silicate will give it form but the repair will lack structure. The fear is that roots will penetrate, or if there is movement in the pipe the repair will fail.
There are various resins other than silicate than can be used. We typically use epoxy resins. An epoxy resin not only gives it form it also has structural value, with the sleeve simply holding it in place (and I believe adds to the integrity as well since brush-coated or sprayed-on epoxy is not considered structural).
We recently received a new resin we wanted to try out, as well as create a repair that we can show to potential clients.
