Overnight fasting and walking before breakfast has been a game-changer for me! In this video, I share how adding a fasted morning walk to my routine is helping me feel lighter, more comfortable in my clothes, sleep better, and have more energy — all after just one week.
By extending my overnight fast and exercising in the morning before eating, my body stays in a low-insulin state. This means I’m not just using the glucose from my last meal — I’m tapping into stored glycogen (carbohydrates stored in my muscles and liver) and fat stores for energy. Walks are perfect for this because, at lower intensities, your body can burn a higher proportion of fat for fuel.
I’ve also made a conscious effort not to eat after my evening meal. I used to get peckish around 9.30pm, but now I pour a glass of water or make a herbal tea instead. The hunger pangs pass surprisingly quickly, and I sleep better — probably because my body isn’t having to digest food late at night.
This isn’t about extreme fasting or dieting — just a small, sustainable change that works for me now I’m over 60 and focusing on healthy ageing. I’ve noticed:
