A piece of glass is a perfect surface for 3D printing. It makes for a perfectly flat printing surface and you can buy it very cheaply almost everywhere. A glass bed is suitable printing surface for almost any filament. You just have to set it up properly. I go into detail on how to set your glass bed up for printing PLA. To summarise, for PLA I am spraying a coat of hairspray on the glass plate and heating up the bed to 60°C.
In my opinion, a glass plate is a great cheap and simple solution for all of the printers that don't come with a special printing surface.
