How to make gardens in a house with no lawn

My gardening journey started in a house with a big lawn. But as life happened and I had to move into a house without a lawn because of its 90's Pakistani urban house architecture, I was forced to be creative to pursue my gardening passion.

I started small with planting in pots of various sizes. Then I started buying bigger tubs and even small bath tubs from scrap yards for planting even bigger plants.

But the theme that my gardens follow now started on my husband's idea of a rooftop garden, the likes of which he had seen in China.

We gave it our own twist, consulted multiple masons, did our own research, and came up with a design for a vegetable garden with a waterproof base on our rooftop. The first iteration gave a great harvest but the issue of dampness and seepage was not ignorable. The second iteration of the garden was a robust base made with the same material as undergeound water tanks and since then (12 years ago) we haven't had a seepage or dampness problem again.

Our third project is now on our ground floor. This is also going to be an amazing feat if we are successful and surely something never been done in an urban Pakistani home before.
