1978 Suzuki RM125 — Roy Thacker / Tisco Racing Diamond • Fully Sorted • Race-Ready Vintage Ripper
Guys, feast your eyes on another absolute diamond from the Tisco Racing fleet.
This is one of Roy Thacker’s meticulously curated motocross machines—part of his legendary 93-bike collection—and if you know Roy, you know he only started with low-mile, original survivors before building them to an exceptional standard. He had a special affinity for RM125s, and every single one he touched was a standout. This 1978 Suzuki RM125 is no exception.
Why This Bike Matters
One-year-only 1978 styling — unique look, instantly recognizable
Built to win races, not just sit pretty
Fully sorted from engine to suspension, with virtually no ride time since completion
Engine & Drivetrain
Crank-up engine rebuild — internally restored, externally detailed
New Mikuni racing carburetor with new drain lines
New spark plug, new air filter
Engine cases look mint — no leaks, beautifully finished magnesium cases (polished, not chromed)
Kicker is tight; shifts crisp
Original factory header pipe — no dents (almost unheard of for this era)
Suspension & Handling (Light Years Better Than Stock)
Upgraded forks from a newer RM125 with increased suspension travel
Chrome fork uppers are beautiful; polished aluminum lowers
Brand-new Progressive rear shocks, approx. 1.5 inches longer than stock
This setup transforms the bike — ready for AHRMA, Mid-Ohio, Unadilla, or display
Chassis, Wheels & Controls
Frame is straight and clean — no dings on one side, just a tiny pea-sized mark on the other
Original rims in excellent condition, confirming low original miles
Polished aluminum swingarm
Refinished hubs; polished aluminum wheels
Renthal aluminum handlebars with new grips
New aluminum clutch & brake levers
New front brake cable, clutch cable, and throttle cable
New gold chain, Renthal sprocket, all new hardware
Original foot pegs, brake pedal, and shifter — all straight and clean
Original kickstand present (rare to see these survive)
Bodywork & Cosmetics
Original fuel tank
Brand-new front fender, front number plate, side panels
Seat foam and cover are new
Painted number-plate backgrounds (vinyls are notoriously difficult on these) — professionally done on both sides
New fork gators (upgraded from old-style boots)
Overall condition: spectacular
Ride Time
Essentially none since completion — just brief run-time and a short shake-down
Pulls hard and will wheelie uphill through all four gears without hesitation
This one is an absolute ripper
Bottom Line
This is the kind of 1978 RM125 you almost never find anymore—correct, beautifully upgraded, brutally fast, and ready to either line up on the gate or anchor a serious vintage collection.
