A young singer, dancer, and percussionist from the Ivory Coast, Dobet Gnahoré has electrified audiences in Africa and Europe with her vibrant performances.As a child, Dobet was trained in the music and dance traditions of the Bété people by her father, Boni Gnahoré, a well known performer in West Africa. Dobet’s husband and musical partner is the French guitarist Colin Laroche, who came to the Ivory Coast to immerse himself in African music. Dobet sings in various African languages, and her music reflects a variety of influences including Mandingo music, Congolese rumba, ziglibiti from the Ivory Coast, and Cameroonian bikutsi.Dobet performs with a largely acoustic lineup of bass, guitar, and various traditional instruments such as the sanza, balafón, and calabash.

“Palea” is a new recording that will be featured on Dobet’s next album, her second. Dobet sings of a passionate love. “I will follow you everywhere you will go / Even to the ends of the earth / My eyes will follow you everywhere /You know, without you, I’m just nothing/Without you, I cannot survive."
