Juror #17 Says She Doesn’t Remember Martinez Prosecute Her Ex But Remembers Him From Crime TV Show

The juror who was the lone holdout to vote against death for Jodi Arias, Juror #17, broke her silence in a TV interview. She has been criticized for not disclosing that Juan Martinez prosecuted her ex-husband. Some accuse her of voting the way she did to get back at the prosecutor. In this clip Juror #17 says she does not remember Martinez prosecute her ex-husband but she does say that she remembers him from a true crime TV show – interestingly, in an episode where she recalls a wife stabbing her husband in his sleep. For someone who watches true crime TV shows, it’s interesting that she claims she never followed the Jodi Arias trial – one of the biggest true crime stories of the decade. It’s also interesting that she remembers Juan Martinez from the TV show but not in real life prosecuting her real life ex-husband. Juror #17 also mentions that her co-workers had heated debates over the Jodi Arias trial which suggests that she was at least aware of the trial’s notoriety.

Another interesting note is that when Juror #17 mentions her ex-husband, she uses the word “tumultuous” to describe her relationship with him which is the exact word Kirk Nurmi used in one of the mitigating factors to describe Jodi Arias’ relationship with Travis Alexander.
