Hazards of driving on sand dunes. Qatar, Sealine, Inland Sea

Our channel features mainly recovery of vehicles that are stuck in sand. Being stuck in sand from time to time is a part of driving in the dunes and indeed part of the fun.
There is however serious dangers in the dunes. Some dunes undulate up and down smoothly and are easy to drive over.
However a large number are hollowed by the wind into a crescent shape.
When you are driving up the dune, it is often difficult if not impossible to see where this occurs. Very often the driver can see only sky, depending on the angle of the dune. Even at a shallower angle you can see the dune horizon against the sky.
The driver will not see the drop until they are literally on it.
This brings me to the ABS braking system on the Toyota Land Cruiser. It is terrible in this situation. On our model it cannot be disabled and basically barely slows the vehicle on loose sand.
In the early days of our trips to this area, we would get out of the vehicle and check ahead on foot, we did this countless times on each trip. We now know where these traps are.
There are also random holes in the dunes that vehicles can fall into. The same applies to these. These holes also shift with the dunes and can appear and disappear from one week to the next.
The final picture was from one such hole, there were 3 serious injuries and 1 fatality in that accident, we were first on the scene and assisted as best we could.
